Treating Carpal Tunnel Syndrome With Chiropractics

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is one of the most common conditions that affects your nerves. Anyone who has experienced it can tell you how painful and uncomfortable it is. Traditionally, only surgery or medication could treat this condition. But these treatments were invasive and incredibly pricey. Now, though, chiropractors are able to treat Carpal Tunnel with a more conservative, gentle approach that actually brings results.

What causes Carpal Tunnel?

Before we talk about how to treat Carpal Tunnel with chiropractic care, it is important to know what exactly causes the pain you’re feeling. The pain in your wrist and/or hand is the result of swelling and misalignment of tissues and bone. When a bone or tissue is out of place, it presses against the median nerve in your wrist. And you feel pain.

Often the bone or tissue moved because of some other underlying problem, like an injury, stress to the wrist, etc. Frequently, we see Carpal Tunnel Syndrome develop in people who work jobs that require vibrating instruments or repetitive use of the hands and wrists. Moreover, several patients develop this condition from nerve irritation in their spine, which then travels into the hands. Other times, though, this issue can seemingly develop out of nowhere. Pregnancy, obesity, and metabolic disorders involving the pituitary and thyroid gland can all be contributing factors to the unexplained development of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel

  • Burning, pain, tingling, or swelling in the palms of the hands (sensations may spread into the fingers)
  • Feeling swelling in the hand when no swelling is present
  • Weakness in affected hand
  • Difficulty picking up small objects

This condition can have a major impact on a person’s lifestyle. In severe cases, if left untreated, the damage to the median nerve can cause permanent loss of movement in the hand.

Treating Carpal Tunnel With A Chiropractor

Treatment of this condition was limited to decompression surgeries, physiotherapy, and prescription medication. But those options often failed to address the underlying problem. Thus, at best they could only provide short-term relief and, at worst, not help at all. Fortunately, many people are now finding long-term relief from Carpal Tunnel syndrome through chiropractic treatment. Chiropractors use non-invasive techniques that always address the underlying cause of many conditions, including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. A chiropractor will perform an evaluation and create an individualized treatment plan that will correct nerve interference in the spine and restore you to an optimal state of health.
