Two Laser Therapies Under One Roof: Why Consales Chiropractic's Approach to Pain Relief Is Different
Two Laser Therapies Under One Roof: Why Consales Chiropractic's Approach to Pain Relief Is Different
If you've been researching laser therapy for chronic pain, a sports injury, or nerve damage, you've probably noticed something: most clinics that offer it offer one type. A low-level cold laser, or a Class IV deep-tissue laser. Rarely both.
At Consales Chiropractic in White Oak, PA, we use both — and we use them for a reason. Class IV laser and Erchonia low-level laser work through different mechanisms, penetrate to different depths, and are best suited for different conditions. Having both under one roof means we can match the therapy to what your body actually needs, rather than fitting your condition into whatever equipment we happen to own.
Here's what each laser does, who benefits most, and how Dr. Consales combines them with our other advanced therapies to help Western PA patients get lasting relief from pain that hasn't responded to anything else.
What Is Class IV Laser Therapy — And How Does It Work?
Class IV laser therapy delivers concentrated light energy deep into damaged tissue. That light triggers a process called photobiomodulation — essentially, it stimulates your cells to produce more ATP (cellular energy), accelerate tissue repair, and reduce inflammatory cytokines. The result is faster healing, reduced swelling, and meaningful pain relief — without drugs, without needles, without downtime.
The "Class IV" designation refers to the power output. These are higher-powered therapeutic lasers (typically 4–12 watts) that can penetrate through muscle and connective tissue to reach structures that cold laser simply can't access — deep joint tissue, lumbar discs, large muscle groups.
At $45 per session, it's one of the most cost-effective advanced therapies we offer. Most patients notice a difference within the first few treatments.
What conditions does Class IV laser treat?
- Chronic back and neck pain
- Knee and hip joint pain
- Shoulder injuries and rotator cuff issues
- Muscle strains and ligament sprains
- Neuropathy (diabetic and post-chemotherapy)
- Tendinitis and bursitis
- Arthritis and joint inflammation
- Sports and car accident injuries
What Is Erchonia Low-Level Laser (Cold Laser) — And How Is It Different?
The Erchonia laser is what's known as a low-level laser therapy (LLLT) device, sometimes called "cold laser" because it doesn't generate heat. It operates at a much lower power level than Class IV, but what it lacks in depth penetration it makes up for in precision and FDA clearance for specific indications.
The Erchonia laser is FDA-cleared for neck and shoulder pain and plantar fasciitis — one of only a handful of laser devices with that level of regulatory backing. It works through the same photobiomodulation pathway but is particularly well-suited for superficial tissue, nerve pathways, and conditions where a gentler, highly targeted approach is needed.
What conditions does Erchonia laser treat?
- Neck and shoulder pain (FDA-cleared)
- Plantar fasciitis / heel pain (FDA-cleared)
- Nerve pain and neuropathy
- Soft tissue injuries
- Scar tissue and adhesions
- Chronic pain conditions with a neurological component
Why Having Both Lasers Matters for Your Recovery
Think of it this way: a surgeon doesn't use the same scalpel for every procedure. The right tool depends on what you're treating and what outcome you're trying to achieve.
Class IV goes deep — it's ideal when the problem is in a large muscle group, a joint capsule, or spinal tissue. Erchonia works at a different frequency and is better calibrated for nerve pathways, surface-level inflammation, and the specific indications it's been cleared to treat.
For many of our patients — especially those dealing with multi-layer issues like neuropathy combined with joint pain, or sciatica with both nerve and muscular involvement — using both lasers in a coordinated protocol produces results that neither alone could achieve.
"Fatigue, neuropathy in my feet, knee pain, abdominal pain... Since I've been on the program with Dr. Consales, my neuropathy is improving, I have more energy, and I'm happier."
— Linda Begley, patient
How Laser Therapy Fits Into the Consales Whole-Body System
Laser therapy on its own can produce excellent results. But at Consales Chiropractic, we rarely use any therapy in isolation — because pain rarely has a single cause.
Our approach — which you can read more about at Our Approach — is built around three principles: Signal Healing, Fuel the Repair, and Let Results Hold. Laser therapy fits squarely in the first phase. It signals your cells to begin the repair process, reduces inflammation, and creates the biological conditions for recovery.
But repair requires raw materials. That's why Dr. Consales often pairs laser therapy with Nutrition Response Testing (NRT) — to identify what nutrients your body is asking for so the repair process your cells just started actually has what it needs to complete. The combination is more powerful than either therapy alone.
For musculoskeletal issues — knee pain, back problems, plantar fasciitis — we frequently combine laser with StemWave® regenerative therapy. StemWave drives acoustic energy deep into injured tissue to trigger a regenerative response; laser therapy modulates inflammation and accelerates cellular repair. Together, they address the problem from two angles simultaneously.
For spinal conditions, we combine laser with spinal decompression — the decompression creates negative pressure to retract disc material, while laser therapy reduces the surrounding inflammation that's been driving nerve compression.
What to Expect During Laser Therapy at Our White Oak, PA Clinic
Laser therapy sessions are comfortable, non-invasive, and typically take 10–20 minutes depending on the area being treated and the protocol used.
- Class IV sessions: You'll feel a gentle warmth at the treatment site. Many patients describe a soothing sensation. Sessions are $45 each.
- Erchonia cold laser: No heat, no sensation in most cases. The laser is moved across the treatment area in a specific pattern. Also $45/session.
Dr. Consales will evaluate your condition during your initial exam and recommend which laser (or combination) is most appropriate for your situation. Because we have both systems, you're not being steered toward one technology by default — you're getting the therapy that fits your case.
Real Patient Outcomes
Judy Cohen came to us with severe leg pain, heel spurs, and tendinitis that made walking — let alone exercise — nearly impossible. After treatment: "I am now pain-free and walking again, and I've resumed my exercise routine."
Kathy Jean Artman described her feet as feeling "like toothaches," combined with locked-up lower back pain and constant fatigue. After working with Dr. Consales: "Foot pain gone. I can touch my toes now, and my energy is wonderful."
These outcomes aren't the result of a single modality — they reflect what happens when the right combination of therapies targets the root cause, not just the symptoms.
